West Ham eye 6ft 4in giant Roggerio Nyakossi as summer exit locked in for defender

West Ham United have reportedly set their sights on defender Roggerio Nyakossi ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Hammers do not yet know which division they will be playing in come August, as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are currently in the Premier League relegation zone.

However, plans already appear to be in place behind the scenes with regards to certain targets should the Hammers stay up.

Nyakossi is currently on the books at OH Leuven but is expected to leave the Belgian side this summer, with Premier League clubs circling.

West Ham have already been linked with numerous players ahead of the summer, with more news being shared on the interest in Nyakossi.

West Ham not alone in showing Roggerio Nyakossi interest

The Sun reported via its website on Saturday that West Ham, Everton, Fulham and Crystal Palace are each looking at Nyakossi.

The defender, who is described in the report as a “6ft 4in giant”, is also wanted by Chelsea and Liverpool.

What we know about Roggerio Nyakossi

Nyakossi is the captain of Switzerland’s Under-21s side and is about to enter the final year of his contract, with an exit from his current club looking likely.

Marseille have the option to purchase the centre-back as part of the agreement that saw them sell him to Leuven last year.

However, the Ligue 1 side would also need to agree personal terms with Nyakossi, who may be more open to a Premier League switch.

The 22-year-old recently admitted “it is always pleasing” when he was asked about the growing interest from clubs abroad.

Likely Nyakossi fee has already been set

It is clear that Nyakossi is a real talent and he will not be short of suitors over the coming weeks and months.

However, the same report claims that a fee in the region of £8million could be enough to sign Nyakossi, which is pennies in the current market.

That all depends on West Ham staying up, of course, but signing the Swiss defender could be a masterstroke.

Axel Disasi has been touted with a permanent move to West Ham after starring on loan from Chelsea, but that will also have to wait for now.

The immediate focus is on beating the drop to the Championship, before focus can then turn towards strengthening the squad ahead of 2026-27.
