West Ham chiefs may lack even more foresight than imagined amid Summerville contract development
West Ham United chiefs are surely not as short-sighted as is now being made out with regards to an update on Crysencio Summerville.
Summerville has been key to West Ham’s hopes of staying up over the past few months when available, second only to Jarrod Bowen in terms of output for the season.
The Netherlands World Cup hopeful still has another three years to run on his deal at the London Stadium, having arrived from Leeds United in a £25million upfront deal two years ago.
On the back of Karren Brady’s exit as West Ham vice-chair, a new update has emerged regarding Summerville.
And with numerous suitors no doubt having eyes on Summerville ahead of the summer window opening, it could make for interesting reading.

Karren Brady pushed for new Crysencio Summerville contract
Plenty has been written in the 24 hours or so since Brady’s West Ham exit was announced in a club statement.
That includes an article from The Athletic, which states that West Ham are looking to create a CEO or managing director role for her replacement.
| Crysencio Summerville | 2025-26 PL stats |
| Games (starts) | 26 (24) |
| Goal involvements | 6 |
| Big chances created | 2 |
| Dribble success | 46% |
| Average Sofascore rating | 6.98 |
The report also mentions how Brady was the one pushing for Summerville to be offered a new contract in the summer.
That, it is said, shows how Brady always had the long term in mind. But it seems pretty staggering that Brady was the only one – apparently – believing Summerville is worthy of a new deal.
Surely Brady’s exit does not change this stance? Everyone – not just those connected to West Ham – can see he is a very good player.

A player who will likely be part of the Netherlands’ World Cup squad this summer, in fact, when the eyes of the continent will be on him.
To even point out that Brady pushed for a new deal for Summerville just seems strange. If nobody else can see that inside the London Stadium, those high up really do lack more foresight than imagined.
What is the latest on Summerville’s contract situation?
As mentioned, Summerville still has another three years to run on his contract.
Sorting a new deal is not exactly imperative, then, as West Ham do not need to sell should they stay up. Should being a key word there.
But if fresh terms are not agreed this summer, all of a sudden he has just two years to run on that contract next summer and the situation is a little different.

It is widely reported that Summerville is in around £45,000, which equates to a yearly wage in the region of £2.3million.
That sounds a lot on the face of it, but it is not exactly breaking the bank from West Ham’s point of view.
If the Hammers stay up, Bowen and Summerville will play a massive part in what will hopefully be a rebuild around them.
Brady could see Summerville’s importance; let’s hope those still at the London Stadium see likewise.
