West Ham: Ally McCoist accepts fans will ‘hate me’ as Jarrod Bowen to Liverpool scenario opens up

West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen has been touted for a summer move to Liverpool by Ally McCoist.

Since joining the Hammers from Hull City in 2020, the English winger has played a huge part in keeping West Ham in the Premier League, guiding them to European finishes under David Moyes and winning them the Europa Conference League in 2022-23.

As Bowen has registered 14 goal contributions in the top flight this season, he has constantly been linked with a move away, and it’s clear that if West Ham were to be relegated, his spell in E20 could be over.

With seven games to go, the Hammers have it all to do to achieve Premier League safety, and their captain knows he needs to step up more than ever as the season reaches its climax.

But, if West Ham are relegated, McCoist feels they may lose Bowen to Liverpool, who are searching for someone to replace legend Mohamed Salah.

Ally McCoist backs Jarrod Bowen as good fit for Liverpool

Salah has announced that he’ll be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season after spending nine years in Merseyside.

With 255 goals for the Reds, Salah has taken the Premier League by storm over the past decade, and they’ll need to replace him with someone who has proven quality at this level.

Therefore, Liverpool may potentially eye Bowen up as a replacement for Salah, given his consistency in the Premier League for the Hammers.

According to Sofascore, the 29-year-old has created 32 chances this season, which shows he possesses the ability to create and score goals.

Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist said he feels Bowen has what it takes to replicate Salah’s heroics at Anfield.

He said: “I’ll throw a name at you. The West Ham fans will hate me for saying it, but if West Ham go down, what about Bowen?

“I’m a massive fan of Bowen. I’ve got to say, I love him. Anytime I go and watch West Ham. Clearly, they’ve got a big fight on their hands to stay up.

“And if they didn’t stay up, you would maybe suggest they’d lose one or two of their best players. He could play for Liverpool in that side.”

However, even if the Reds don’t pursue the English winger, several other clubs in the top flight could explore that option, especially if the Hammers are relegated this season.

Jarrod Bowen would go down as one of West Ham’s greatest ever players

Whenever Bowen does leave West Ham, it will certainly be a sad day for every fan in E20.

Even if you discount his goal against Fiorentina in that memorable Conference League final, he has scored 83 goals for the Hammers in all competitions.

With 108 goal involvements in the Premier League, no fan could imagine that he would have this sort of impact when he joined West Ham.

If he does leave, then a move to another English club would ordinarily not go down well, but West Ham fans may understand Bowen’s desire to compete at a higher level than the Championship.
