Tony Cascarino reveals what ‘amazes’ him about West Ham’s Axel Disasi transfer after Wolves win

Tony Cascarino is surprised that Chelsea let Axel Disasi join West Ham United on loan this winter after being left impressed by the defender during the win over Wolves this Friday.

The centre-back added another clean sheet to his tally for the Hammers, who thumped Wolves 4-0 to boost their own chances of Premier League survival.

Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side have climbed out of the relegation zone and into 17th place, putting pressure on Tottenham to show up in their game against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.

The Irons have seen major improvements across the board since the winter window, but one of the biggest differences seen by the London Stadium faithful has been the backline.

Not much has changed, but as Cascarino suggests, he cannot believe that Chelsea let Disasi join West Ham.

Disasi has brought out the best in Konstantinos Mavropanos since his arrival and has made the overall backline look much more solid.

The Frenchman is only in E20 until the end of the season, after the Hammers struck a six-month loan deal, with an additional £2million fee.

Disasi’s stats vs Wolves

As seen in the table above, Disasi was once again in top form, this time against Rob Edwards’ side, who look destined for the Championship.

While speaking on talkSPORT this Saturday, Cascarino spoke about how Disasi has improved West Ham and revealed that he was shocked to see Chelsea let him go.

Cascarino said: “Since the defeat to Wolves, there has been a massive turnaround. You talk about [Konstantinos] Mavropanos and [Max] Kilman, it’s extraordinary that there was all this talk about a centre-half.

“What amazes me about football, Disasi, had been deemed not good enough, and Chelsea, by the way, need centre-halves and have been really poor in that position. He’s turned up at West Ham and played really well for them.”

West Ham could sign Disasi if they stay in the Premier League, according to Mail Sport.

Most Hammers fans will be thinking the same, as Disasi looks every bit of a top-quality defender.

Does David Sullivan deserve more credit?

David Sullivan went gung-ho in the winter window, as the likes of Pablo, Taty Castellanos, and even Disasi were all signings that were frowned upon at first.

Whether that be for the fee that was paid for their services, or the lack of confidence that they could do the job, the reality is that the signings are helping Nuno.

In comparison to Tottenham, for example, the only big addition they made was Conor Gallagher, who right now, looks every bit of a Championship footballer.

Sullivan has rightly had his critics, but in a time where finances are already a problem in E20, he made some big gambles that could have changed West Ham’s fortunes for the years to come.

Hopefully, he has some extra pennies left to fund a permanent move for Disasi in the summer.
