Mateus Fernandes’ value soars at West Ham as midfielder reaches Elliott Anderson levels
Mateus Fernandes’ spell at West Ham United has been fruitful for everyone involved, with the midfielder becoming incredibly important.
After arriving from Southampton for a package worth £42million, questions had been asked of if he was worth that level of outlay.
Ever since, he has shattered any suggestion that he is not worth the money. However, his performances have led to increased speculation and interest from outside parties.
The Hammers could expect plenty of approaches this upcoming summer window, whether or not they are a Premier League club.
But they may now have reason to place a significant price tag on Fernandes ahead of any West Ham exit for next season.

How much is Mateus Fernandes worth now at West Ham?
Before the most recent CIES Football Observatory fair market value update, Fernandes was estimated to be worth around £38.3m to £45.8m.
However, after the latest update, his value has increased, putting him on par with the likes of Elliott Anderson.
| Mateus Fernandes at West Ham | Total |
| Transfer fee | £42m |
| Contract expiry | 2029 |
| Wages per week | £60,000 |
The Portuguese midfielder is now slated to be worth between £47.8m to £54.8m. In comparison to Anderson, he is not too far off.
The Englishman is estimated to be worth £49.6m to £57.4m. With similar estimations, the Hammers could be well within their right to request an extortionate fee for any approach for Fernandes.
It was claimed by Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenburg that Nottingham Forest are seeking upwards of £100m for the England international.
It would not be entirely outrageous for the same fee to be placed on Fernandes, especially with Nuno Espirito Santo labelling him as “special.”
Back in October, the Irons manager stated: “[Fernandes can] improve as a player, become a more mature person. A young person is capable of, I believe, giving many, many joys to West Ham. We have something special there.”
What is the latest on Mateus Fernandes?
Manchester United and Liverpool have been touted to have interest in Fernandes ahead of the summer window.
However, now Chelsea have entered the race for Fernandes as well. The Blues are eyeing a trio of West Ham stars in the event the Irons get relegated.
West Ham have reportedly slapped a £55m asking price on the midfielder.

It may ultimately prove hard for the E20 outfit to keep a hold of the Portuguese international, who will no doubt be attracted by the chance to play European football.
However, as stated above, they must not undervalue themselves. If Anderson’s fair market value is akin to Fernandes’, they are within their right to place the same asking price on the midfielder.
