Mateus Fernandes‘ agents have been contacted by Liverpool over a potential West Ham United exit.

The former Southampton man joined the Hammers in a £42million deal last summer, and he has impressed at the London Stadium so far.

That has led to interest in his services from big clubs, such as the Anfield outfit, Manchester United and Arsenal.

A report from Mark Brus on 7 April claimed that the Reds have reached out to Gestifute over the newly-capped Portugal star.

West Ham would be able to keep Fernandes in an ideal world, but it may prove to be a step too far, especially if they drop down to the Championship.

How much could West Ham sell Fernandes for?

West Ham could make a tidy profit on Fernandes, if Arne Slot’s side are serious about a move for the 21-year-old.

The report claims that there is a £55million asking price on the table for the attacking midfielder, which would represent solid business for the Hammers.

It would be a £13m profit for the East London side, which would help them to rebuild their squad, regardless of what division they are in next season.

Why West Ham will not want to lose Fernandes

Fernandes may well be considered irreplaceable in E20, as he has been one of the standout players in the number 10 role.

He has featured 29 times in the Premier League, with three goals and three assists so far in claret and blue.

The underlying numbers are more impressive, as he records 0.8 shots per game, averages 57 touches and completes 64 per cent of his dribbles, per Sofascore.

He loses possession nine times on average, which suggests that he is comfortable in possession, and his performances could scale to a more dominant team like the 2024-25 champions.

The Portuguese star averages 4.9 ball recoveries per game and wins 55 per cent of his ground duels and 52 of the aerial duels that he contests, proving that he can also help out defensively too.

He would be a big loss for Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side, if they were to allow him to leave, and had to find a replacement for one of their most talented players.
