Konstantinos Mavropanos has experienced a revival in his West Ham United‘s fortunes in recent weeks.

The Greek defender was often regarded as error-prone among Hammers supporters, with many labelling him as ‘Mavropanic’ due to his erratic defending.

However, he has firmly shaken off the doubters with some outstanding performances that have put his side in contention to stay in the Premier League.

West Ham have a reliable leader at the back with the 28-year-old, and they must ensure that he sticks around for the foreseeable future.

What is Mavropanos’ situation at West Ham?

Mavropanos’s West Ham future could come into question shortly, as his contract does not have much time left on it.

The 40-cap international signed a five-year deal with the Irons when he joined from Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart in August 2023.

His current contract in East London is set to expire in the summer of 2028, if no agreement is reached on fresh terms.

Who could have interest in Mavropanos?

Mavropanos was linked with an exit when Graham Potter was in charge, but he stayed put and has become a key player in E20.

West Ham Zone revealed in October that AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal wanted to sign him last summer, with the latter making a bid.

That interest could resurface when the transfer window reopens, so the Hammers need to move quickly to tie one of their biggest assets down.

How much is Mavropanos earning?

The Greek ace is understood to earn around £50,000-per-week in East London, which puts him in the middle of the wage bill.

Jarrod Bowen is believed to be on around £150,000-per-week and Alphonse Areola is understood to be approximately £120,000-per-week.

Surely Mavropanos will be looking for that type of money if he sticks around, as he has emerged as one of Nuno Espirito Santo’s most reliable players.

Should Mavropanos get a new contract?

West Ham simply cannot let Mavropanos depart at this point.

He has proven to be far too important, and will play a crucial role in their survival bid, if he continues his current form.

Replacing the former Arsenal man would surely prove harder than the financials of handing him a new deal, so it is a no-brainer for David Sullivan and Co.
