Jarrod Bowen would be making a mistake swapping West Ham for Chelsea as interest mooted

Jarrod Bowen is reportedly of interest to Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window, but the West Ham United star would be making a mistake moving to Stamford Bridge.

The 29-year-old is doing everything in his power to keep West Ham in the Premier League this season, with his eight goals and eight assists from 32 league games a testament to that.

Signed from Hull City all the way back in January 2020, the versatile forward has already cemented himself as a Hammers hero for all eternity.

It will no doubt be an incredibly sad day for all Irons supporters when the England international does eventually decide to call it quits at the London Stadium, and that day will almost certainly arrive if they are relegated this term.

Even if Nuno Espirito Santo’s side can survive in the top flight for another year, West Ham are bound to face significant transfer interest in Bowen’s services this summer.

What has been said about Chelsea’s interest in Jarrod Bowen?

Bowen is a top Premier League forward, and is criminally underrated in the wider English football circle outside of the West Ham United community.

However, his form once again this season is going to be incredibly hard for top teams to ignore any longer, as the Hammers brace themselves for a fight to keep him at the football club.

And, a fresh post from Chelsea reporter Simon Phillips via his Substack on Tuesday claims that Bowen, alongside Hammers teammates Crysencio Summerville and Mateus Fernandes, are all of interest to the Blues.

The Hammers are just two points above Tottenham in 18th, and are not out of the relegation woods whatsoever, as the Stamford Bridge outfit appear to be getting their ducks in a row ready to swoop ahead of the summer.

Chelsea would not be a good move for Bowen

So, whilst naturally signing for Chelsea would boost Bowen’s profile, bank account and chances of silverware, there are red flags that should warn him of the dangers of crossing over to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have an embarrassment of attacking riches across their forward line, and in particular in Bowen’s best and natural position as a right winger.

Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, Jamie Gittens and Estevao are all some of the options who he’d be competing with there.

That’s without mentioning the Blues’ other forward options, including: Alejandro Garnacho, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and the highly-rated Shumaira Mheuka respectively.

Bowen is 29 and still very much in his prime, and so if he’s to leave West Ham, he needs to join a team that will guarantee him 90 minutes week in, week out, and that simply wouldn’t be the case at Chelsea.

The Blues hierarchy are also relentless when it comes to the transfer market, always looking to splash the cash with nobody’s place in the team safe.

As such, Bowen could quite easily go there, and should he struggle to hit the ground running for whatever reason, soon find himself down the pecking order and wasting away on their bench.

So, instead of Chelsea, if Bowen was to move on this summer, then perhaps a different top six club such as an Aston Villa or a Man United would be a much better fit for him.
