Crysencio Summerville: West Ham dealt blow of keeping star as Nike deal announced

Crysencio Summerville is now officially a Nike athlete, as the West Ham United star pens a sponsorship deal with the global sports apparel brand.

The 24-year-old was one of West Ham’s standout players from last season, scoring five goals and providing two assists from 31 Premier League appearances.

In recognition of his strong individual campaign for the Hammers, Summerville has been named as part of the Netherlands’ World Cup squad for this summer’s tournament.

His Dutch side could be a real dark horse to go far in the World Cup, and a strong run in the tournament would cap off what has been a fine 2025-26 term for the Irons winger.

But, as a result of West Ham’s relegation and his impressive individual performances, Summerville looks likely to leave the London Stadium in the summer transfer window.

Crysencio Summerville “blessed” as Nike sponsorship announced

Aston Villa are the latest to be linked with Summerville, as it remains to be seen whether he and/or West Ham will wait until after the World Cup to sort his Hammers future out.

However, as he’s announced via his Instagram account on Tuesday, the Dutchman has already penned his first big contract of the summer.

Indeed, Summerville has revealed that he’s now a Nike athlete, posting a series of photos of him posing in and with gear from the world-renowned sports apparel brand, including one of him inking his contract.

He’s captioned those images by saying: “My whole career I only played in Swoosh… and I’m beyond blessed to announce that I’m officially part of the Nike family again.

“A preCiouS moment. Grateful for the journey and motivated for everything that’s still ahead.

Why Summerville’s Nike deal is bad news for West Ham

It goes without saying, but Nike don’t just sign any athlete to their brand, as it has to be a worthwhile investment on their end as well.

They have to be satisfied that the athlete they’re signing will be competing on the biggest stages in their respective sport, thus providing their brand with maximum exposure levels.

Summerville playing in the Championship won’t work for Nike in that regard, as although it’s a hugely popular league in its own right, it pales in comparison to the eyes the Premier League and its players have on them.

Because of this, Nike will surely want Summerville to be playing in a top European league of some form in 2026-27, and that could see pressure applied to West Ham from both the company and the player to find him a move to one in the coming weeks.

Who knows, maybe this Nike agreement doesn’t come with any strings attached regarding Summerville playing in a certain league, and it may not have any impact on the Hammers’ ability to retain his services if they so wish.

However, it’s surely far more likely now that armed with this deal, Summerville will need to leave the London Stadium for pastures new and brighter spotlights for next season and beyond.
