Armando Gonzalez to West Ham: Chivas striker urged to stay after latest two-goal heroics

West Ham United target Armando Gonzalez has been urged to stay at Chivas.

This season, the free-scoring striker has already scored 20 goals in all competitions – most of which have come in 2026 – and a host of big-name clubs are queuing up.

Despite the arrivals of Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe for a combined fee just shy of £50million, Gonzalez is said to be on the Hammers’ radar ahead of the summer window.

Gonzalez would be an eye-catching West Ham signing, but the deal may not be simple.

West Ham already approached Armando Gonzalez

The ace took his tally to 20 goals in 28 matches after scoring a brace in a 2-0 victory against Santos Laguna, and post-match, Chivas boss Gabriel Milito waxed lyrical about his display.

In doing so, he also admitted he is not looking forward to a summer of wild speculation.

“Hormiga knows what he wants,” Milito told ESPN. “He comes from a footballing family, and we try to instil that in him too. He has a mentality that always wants to give his all.

“I want him to have the humility to improve on aspects he needs to improve. I like his evolution as a player, that progress. I want him to be able to participate and do it well.

“If he can go to Europe, of course [he might decide to leave]. But I want him to stay. I hope he’s not in a hurry to leave, because I’m not.”

But in a new twist, it has been reported that West Ham made overtures in January, with reporter Diego Yvey telling ESPN Mexico that they had been in talks with Gonzalez’s camp.

They were seemingly turned down, although they are now expected to reignite their interest at the end of the season, once their Premier League fate has been decided.

Who else wants to sign Gonzalez?

Gonzalez looks affordable for West Ham, with a release clause worth just £15million included in his contract. However, that has also put numerous other clubs on red alert.

Among them are titans Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund, with Celtic also in the race.

The 22-year-old previously rejected a move to Russian side CSKA Moscow during the winter window and, according to his father, hopes to next play in Europe.

That has opened the door for the Hammers, who must now table a convincing sales pitch. Staying in the top-flight would aid their cause, and Gonzalez may well be watching closely.
