West Ham chiefs already decide on Nuno future with no compo payout required

West Ham United chiefs already know what they intend to do with Nuno Espirito Santo should they drop out of the Premier League.

The Hammers’ survival hopes, which have been looking promising for a while now, took a massive dent over the weekend.

West Ham were beaten 3-0 at London rivals Brentford on Saturday, opening the door for Tottenham to pounce as they beat Aston Villa 2-1 on Sunday.

Nuno’s side are now back in the Premier League relegation zone, one point behind Spurs with three matches to go.

All of a sudden there are question marks over Nuno’s future at West Ham, but a report has shed some clarity.

West Ham to stick with Nuno, but there’s a twist

West Ham are now the favourites to be relegated alongside Wolves and Burnley after a pretty dreadful weekend of results.

The Hammers’ predicament perhaps would not be as bad if they did not have Arsenal up next, while Tottenham host a Leeds United side that will likely have nothing to play for.

If West Ham do go down, it will be considered a failure on Nuno’s behalf. Sure, the experienced boss was taking over a mess left behind by Graham Potter.

But at the same time, he had plenty of time and plenty of backing in the winter to get West Ham out of this mess.

There will be a full inquest, but for now it appears West Ham chiefs are happy to stick with Nuno if the worst does happen.

That is according to Jason Burt of The Telegraph, who reports on Monday afternoon that Nuno will also have a say in his future.

There is a break clause in his contract that would allow either party to walk away if West Ham are relegated.

Should either party wish to terminate the deal, no compensation will be paid, despite the ex-Nottingham Forest boss having two years left to run on it.

What has Nuno told West Ham about staying on?

Nuno is not exactly in a position to be holding his cards close to his chest, but that appears to be exactly what he is doing.

As per the same report, Nuno has not informed his bosses of what he intends to do if West Ham are a Championship club this time next month.

The truth is that West Ham have more to lose from being relegated than Nuno does. The 52-year-old will likely land another low-end Premier League job at some point next season.

As for West Ham, they would need to find someone who has experience of getting out of the second tier – just like Nuno has.

All focus now is on getting out of this mess of West Ham’s own doing, and hope that there is not a decision to be made one way or another in terms of the managerial situation.
