West Ham vs Man City preview: Team news, lineups, prediction

West Ham United can continue their excellent run of form when Manchester City visit the London Stadium on Saturday.

The Hammers have won 14 points in their last eight league games, and although Nuno Espirito Santo’s side remain in 18th place, they’re only three points behind 15th-placed Leeds.

Up next is a home match against Man City, who are second in the table and seven points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.

City head into the game on the back of a chastening 3-0 loss to Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday.

West Ham’s FA Cup win over Brentford on Monday has surely given them a lot of confidence, but they’ll need to be at their best to secure all three points against Pep Guardiola’s side.

Head-to-head

Simply put, West Ham have a terrible record against Man City.

The reverse fixture saw the Hammers lose 3-0 at the Etihad in December, with Erling Haaland scoring a brace.

The last time West Ham beat the Citizens was in September 2015, and since then, they’ve gone 20 games without a win.

Only against Fulham (a current run of 22) and Newcastle (22 between 2006 and 2018) have Man City had a longer unbeaten run in their league history than against West Ham.

Overall, West Ham have beaten Man City 38 times, lost 67 meetings and drawn 19 matches.

Team news and predicted lineups

The big news for West Ham is that Crysencio Summerville is injured for up to three weeks.

While it is undoubtedly a huge blow, Adama Traore will be ready to play his part off the left wing.

El Hadji Malick Diouf is also expected to come back into the side for Oliver Scarles, while Taty Castellanos should return up front.

As for Man City, Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol are injured, but Rico Lewis could return to the matchday squad after nursing an ankle problem.

West Ham predicted XI vs Man City

West Ham predicted XI: Hermansen; Wan-Bissaka, Mavropanos, Disasi, Diouf; Fernandes, Soucek; Bowen, Pablo, Adama, Castellanos

Man City predicted XI: Donnarumma; Nunes, Dias, Guehi, Ait-Nouri; Rodri, O’Reilly, Silva; Foden, Semenyo, Haaland

We say: West Ham 2-2 Man City

The Hammers know how tough it is to secure a positive result against Man City, but this weekend’s meeting could be different.

Guardiola’s team aren’t what they once were, and although they are still in every competition, they’ve been defensively weak all season.

Jarrod Bowen is in a rich vein of form, while Adama Traore has scored more goals against the Citizens than any other side in his career.

Although it may be slightly optimistic, West Ham have had two extra days to prepare for the game, and given their home advantage, a 2-2 draw with Man City could be a likely outcome.
