West Ham relegation chances updated by supercomputer after Wolves win

West Ham United‘s relegation chances have been reduced after their victory at home to Wolves.

Despite at one time being at risk of the sack, Nuno Espirito Santo has worked wonders to get the Hammers back to the best in the Premier League, and that was again the case against Wolves.

Two goals from Taty Castellanos and a brace from Konstantinos Mavropanos saw the Irons run away with a 4-0 win over Vitor Pereira’s side.

The win means that West Ham have moved out of the relegation zone at Tottenham’s expense, albeit now having played one more game.

However, West Ham are not safe from relegation yet, though the likelihood of them suffering it has been reduced signifcantly.

How likely are West Ham to be relegated?

With just two defeats from their last eight, West Ham are in very good form all things considered, and that is reflected by their relegation chances.

Prior to the win over Wolves, their relegation chances stood at a 57.48 per cent likelihood, with that now reduced to 44.44 per cent, as per Opta.

Premier LeagueRelegation chances
Burnley99.91%
West Ham44.44%
Tottenham34.96%
Nottingham Forest11.61%

As of right now, it still means that West Ham are predicted to finish in the bottom three, though the points difference from Tottenham is just 0.08.

The Lilywhites have a 34.96 per cent chance of relegation, and given their recent form, that may only increase as the season draws to a close.

What do West Ham need to do to secure safety?

Since taking over in September, Nuno has seen his side pick up an average of 1.23 points per game, which, if repeated ahead of the final six games of the season, would see them finish on 39 points.

Given how tight the bottom half of the table is, that may not be enough to see them retain their Premier League status.

However, to change that, Nuno has to work on strengthening his defensive shape, with the Hammers having kept just five clean sheets this season.

Should he achieve that, then the Irons can look forward to another season in the top flight.
