West Ham relegation chances shift in latest supercomputer prediction after Tottenham loss

West Ham United‘s hopes of survival have been boosted after Tottenham’s loss to Sunderland on Sunday.

Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side pulled themselves out of the relegation zone for the first time since December with a 4-0 win over Wolves on 10 April.

Their London rivals just had to win to put them back into the drop zone, but Nordi Mukiele’s effort deflected off Micky van de Ven and sentenced Roberto De Zerbi’s team to defeat.

It means that the Irons stayed out, rather than going immediately back in, and gives the London Stadium outfit real hope.

West Ham are increasingly likely to avoid the drop, after Spurs were defeated on Wearside, as a new prediction emerged.

What is latest West Ham relegation prediction?

West Ham were still prime contenders for the drop after the win over Wolves, but that has now shifted.

The Opta Analyst supercomputer gave them a 44.44 per cent chance after that victory, but now their likelihood is just 37.35 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Lilywhites have flipped from 34.96 per cent to 44.90 per cent, which bodes well for Nuno’s side.

At the moment, the Hammers are predicted to finish 17th with 38.35 expected points, with Spurs in 18th with 37.27 expected points.

Why West Ham can’t take supercomputer too seriously

Nuno and his players can’t read too much into the supercomputer’s prediction, as clearly things can change very quickly, as evidenced by the most recent turnaround.

One bad result for the E20 side and a good one for Spurs could completely change their percentages in the predicted table from the outlet.

It has to be taken with a pinch of salt, and three points on the pitch is all that matters for the Irons, not what a model says about their chances of going down.

They need to keep winning, taking points, and hoping that De Zerbi’s side or Nottingham Forest stumble, so that they do not end up in the Championship next season.

Working on the backline will be crucial, as they have kept just five clean sheets all season, if he can get them to step up in the final few weeks of the campaign, then the East London outfit should retain their top-flight status.
