West Ham player ratings vs Leeds – Jarrod Bowen let down as Taty Castellanos dismal
West Ham United crashed out of the FA Cup after a penalty shootout defeat to Leeds United on Sunday.
Nuno Espirito Santo made five changes to his side, with an eye on the Premier League clash with Wolves on Friday.
Ao Tanaka opened the scoring in the first-half before Max Kilman gave away a penalty as the Hammers were building up momentum.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin smashed home the spot kick, but the Irons secured a magical comeback through Mateus Fernandes and Axel Disasi.
Young goalkeeper Finlay Herrick made his debut, coming on in extra time after Alphonse Areola was injured, and it stayed at 2-2 to force a shootout, which the visitors won.
West Ham need to show this same spirit in the league, where they will hope to survive with seven matches left.

Jarrod Bowen was let down in West Ham defeat
Jarrod Bowen is West Ham’s saviour on a regular basis, and on another day, he would have been here.
The England star recorded six shots, with three of them being blocked by the opposition and two hitting the woodwork, per Sofascore.
He was constantly trying to make things happen, with three key passes and one big chance created from the 29-year-old.
Something eventually did as Bowen’s effort hit the post, and allowed Fernandes to follow in and score.
| Bowen’s stats vs Leeds | |
| Shots (blocked) | 6 (3) |
| Key passes | 3 |
| Big chances created | 1 |
| Tackles | 1 |
| Recoveries | 3 |
Bowen also showed a willingness to get back and defend, making one tackle and three recoveries in the contest.
He will be absolutely vital if Nuno’s side are going to have any chance to survive in the Premier League, as long as his teammates can finish the chances that he creates.
While he missed his penalty in the shootout, his performance across normal and extra time was brilliant.
Castellanos has a nightmare in West Ham loss
Taty Castellanos had several chances to put the Hammers back into the contest, but he could not make the most of them.
It was a miserable afternoon for the Argentine forward, as he had six shots, with two on target, and missed three big chances, per Sofascore.
He was also caught offside three times, and completed just 58 per cent of his 19 pass attempts, which did not help his side at all.
The last offside was for a goal in extra-time, where he finished excellently after taking it past Lucas Perri in the Whites’ net.

The former Lazio man had 41 touches, but gave the ball away 18 times, and attempted just three carries for a total distance for 22.6m.
He attempted six ground duels and won just a single one, but was more successful in the air, with five of the nine that he contested being successful.
The fact that Nuno did not take him off until half-time of extra-time was a shambles, as he had a nightmare.
