West Ham face double-edged sword vs Tottenham as kick-off pattern emerges in relegation battle
West Ham United will kick off each of their next three Premier League games before Tottenham does.
The Hammers are in the business end of the Premier League season, and Spurs appear to be their biggest relegation rivals.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side picked up their first win in 2026 with a 1-0 victory over Wolves last weekend, keeping them in 18th place, but only two points behind the Irons.
Nuno Espirito Santo will gladly take any advantage he can get over any of West Ham’s relegation rivals, but keeping Tottenham beneath them is now a must.
West Ham slipped into the relegation zone at one point during their game against Everton, and it’s a brutal reality check of how quickly things can go wrong.

Tottenham’s latest fixture change could benefit West Ham, or not
Nuno has done a great job at the London Stadium, all things considered, but it’s these final few games that he will be remembered for.
There could yet be twists and turns in the final four games of the season, though West Ham currently seems to have momentum in their favour.
| Date for Tottenham & West Ham | West Ham’s opponent | KO time | Tottenham’s opponent | KO time |
| Saturday, 2 May (WH) Sunday, 3 May (TH) | Brentford (A) | 3.00 PM | Aston Villa (A) | 7.00 PM |
| Sunday, 10 May (WH) Monday, 11 May (TH) | Arsenal (H) | 4.30 PM | Leeds United (H) | 8.00 PM |
| Sunday, 17 May (WH) Tuesday, 19 May (TH) | Newcastle (A) | 3.00 PM | Chelsea (A) | 8.15 PM |
Heading into three of these games, the Hammers will be kicking off their matches earlier than Tottenham up until the final weekend of the season.
Spurs just had their 37th game of the season changed to a Tuesday night match instead of a Sunday, when they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, which some will say is a bonus for West Ham.
But, it may only be a bonus for Nuno’s men if they take advantage of their three games by putting pressure on Tottenham.

However, if the Hammers were to slip up in any of these games, De Zerbi’s men would be given an added incentive to go out and capitalise on the result of their main relegation rival.
Why West Ham need to focus on themselves
If anything, it might put more pressure on West Ham to deliver a result heading into their next three games, but it’s not just Tottenham they have to worry about.
Nottingham Forest are currently three points ahead of the Hammers, and are in a good moment following their 5-0 demolition of Sunderland last time out.
However, the Reds are still in the UEFA Europa League, which they also want to be successful in.
There’s a good chance that they could slip up in the Premier League due to their extra fixtures, and that’s why West Ham just need to focus on their own game and see what happens around them.
