West Ham badly need Konstantinos Mavropanos to be fit after concussion scare latest
West Ham United will be hoping for good news on Konstantinos Mavropanos’ injury scare.
Mavropanos suffered a heavy blow to the head during Greece’s friendly against Paraguay during the international break, in worrying scenes for Nuno Espirito Santo.
The 28-year-old centre-back has been a mainstay at the London Stadium and taken on a crucial role in their fight to avoid Premier League relegation this season.
But now, his club will be concerned about the prospect of him missing out on make-or-break matches during their run-in after a gloomy update from the Greek media.
West Ham return to action against Leeds in the FA Cup quarter-final this weekend, and as it stands, it is not clear whether Mavropanos will be able to play a part in East London.

What is Konstantinos Mavropanos’ injury latest?
His knock to the head while on international duty had initially looked inconspicuous, but now, it threatens to have ramifications on the rest of West Ham’s campaign.
According to Greek publication Sportal, Mavropanos will be rested for Tuesday night’s friendly against Hungary in Budapest, with the national team taking precautions.
| Player | Sofascore rating (PL only) |
| Konstantinos Mavropanos | 6.91 |
| Max Kilman | 6.56 |
| Jean-Clair Todibo | 6.59 |
| Axel Disasi | 6.74 |
While the outlet did not offer more insight into the extent of the issue, it claimed that it had been deemed appropriate “not to take the slightest risk” over the former Arsenal man.
“The medical staff prioritised his full recovery, with the international stopper remaining out of the options for precautionary reasons,” they added.
The fact that the blow has been labelled as “precautionary” will come as some relief to West Ham supporters, but in the absence of confirmation, unease will continue to swirl.
Mavropanos has been a rock for the Irons this season, and without them, they will face a much tougher test against Leeds in the FA Cup as they look to book their spot at Wembley.
West Ham need Mavropanos fit and firing
As the Sofascore graphic below demonstrates, Mavropanos has been insurmountable since Nuno’s arrival at the club. It is no wonder that West Ham have opened talks with him.
Under the current head coach, he has made 24 appearances in total, starting in 20 of them, and his statistics are very impressive.
Indeed, he averages 1.42 tackles and 2.96 recoveries per game.

Mavropanos, who until recently divided opinion after joining from Bundesliga side Stuttgart back in 2023, also makes a whopping 6.63 clearances on average every 90 minutes.
In March, he helped to shackle Erling Haaland during the 1-1 draw with Manchester City, but he has also combined brains with brawn, shown by his 82.7 per cent pass accuracy.
Clearly, he has taken on a new lease of life with the Irons, who will be desperate for him to shake off his injury worries and help them secure their top-flight status for another year.
