Ollie Scarles deserves his flowers with impressive 2025-26 West Ham numbers
Ollie Scarles deserves major credit for his 2025-26 West Ham United season, as a host of his key underlying stats are very impressive.
The 20-year-old left-back has endured an up and down campaign at the London Stadium this year, with some top performances mixed in with ones he’d rather forget.
Having been in the first-team picture over the last few years, Scarles has enjoyed his biggest season yet in 2025-26, with his 17 appearances in all competitions being the most he’s ever played in a single senior term.
Should West Ham be relegated to the Championship, he could evolve into a key starting player in the second tier, but may face an uncertain future if the Hammers survive.
Those questions will be answered soon enough with just one game to go this season, but some of Scarles’ hidden numbers suggest he’s an ascending player that United would be wise to keep around.

Scarles’ West Ham career is at a crossroads, but the Academy of Football graduate is still on the right path to stardom.

Scarles has still been able to feature 13 times in the Premier League this season though, culminating in 659 minutes of top-flight action.
And, when you peel back the curtain on his campaign, the hidden numbers he’s been able to put up paint a hugely impressive picture for what he’s been able to achieve when given the opportunity.
Per FotMob, Scarles has won 4.10 tackles per game in the Premier League this season, which is the most of any left-back in the division this term.
On top of that, his 10.1 defensive contributions per 90 rank him in the top 7.2 percentile of his Premier League positional peers, whilst his 1.78 interceptions per game place him in the top 3.6 percentile respectively.
Meanwhile, Scarles’ 2.46 accurate long balls, 0.41 big chances created and 61.3 per cent duels won rank him among the top 9.6, 4.8 and 8.4 percentiles respectively.
Where Scarles still needs to improve
Of course, there still some areas of his game that Scarles needs to iron out if he’s to become a cemented future starter for West Ham.
His 80.4 per cent passing accuracy this season has ranked him in the bottom 36.1 per cent of Premier League left-backs.
Meanwhile, his 8.8 successful crosses per cent puts him in the bottom 14.5 percentile, whilst his 22.2 per cent dribble success rate ranks him in the lower 9.6 percentile respectively.
Scarles has been dribbled past 1.23 times per 90 in the league this season too, which affords him a spot in the bottom 19.3 percentile, and his 0.96 aerial duels won per game places him in the bottom 33.7 percentile respectively.
Overall though, most of Scarles’ underlying stats are very encouraging indeed, suggesting that West Ham shouldn’t be thinking of giving up on him yet, as there is clearly so much room for him to grow still.
