Newcastle United have only won twice on a Sunday in the Premier League this season, ahead of their meeting with West Ham United this weekend.

A trip to Tyneside is on West Ham’s agenda this Sunday, as Nuno Espirito Santo takes his team to Newcastle.

With Tottenham not in action until Tuesday night due to Chelsea’s involvement in the FA Cup final, the Hammers have a massive opportunity to pile the pressure on their relegation rivals with a win at St James’ Park.

However, with one win in four and off the back of two-straight defeats, and feeling particularly hard done by against Arsenal last time out, that’s going to be a task far simpler said than done.

With only two games to rescue their top-flight status, everyone connected with West Ham will be looking for any omen of victory they can possibly find.

What is Newcastle United’s record on a Sunday this season?

Newcastle are heavy favourites to beat West Ham, with St James’ Park renowned down the years as one of the toughest places to go and get a result as the travelling side.

But, the Mags have lost seven times on home soil in the Premier League this season, and the mood up there among fans isn’t great, with the atmosphere primed to sour if the Hammers can take the lead.

Sitting 13th in the table, the Geordies have taken a notable step backwards in 2025-26, having finished last season in fifth and qualifying for Champions League football.

There’s been a myriad of possible explanations as to why that’s been, from transfer losses, recruitment, coaching, injuries and bad luck all playing their respective parts.

Indeed, from the 12 Premier League games they’ve played on a Sunday this term, Eddie Howe’s side have won only twice, against Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace respectively.

Toon have lost seven and drawn three respectively, and are winless from their last five league games on the final day of the week.

Sunday’s clearly haven’t worked for Newcastle in 2025-26, but have they been more kind to West Ham?

Well, not really, but the Hammers’ record is a lot more forgivable than Newcastle’s due to the strength of competition they’ve faced.

Nuno’s men have won two, drawn one and lost four of their seven Sunday games in the league this term, but their defeats have been at the hands of Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa twice respectively.

In comparison, Newcastle’s losses have came to Arsenal, West Ham, Brentford, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Sunderland twice respectively.
