Jarrod Bowen’s England omission is criminal – the stats show West Ham star should be at World Cup
Jarrod Bowen has been omitted from the England squad for the World Cup, despite his West Ham United form.
Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel’s decisions have started to leak through in the media, and it appears the Hammers man will not make the squad.
Bowen has notched eight goals and 10 assists in the Premier League this season, but that has not been enough to convince his national team manager.
It is a harsh decision from the German, and does not seem justified based on his performances this season.
If the West Ham man is not in the squad, as expected, it is frankly criminal from the former Chelsea boss.

Why West Ham star Bowen’s exclusion is unfair
Bowen’s form for West Ham has been enough, but the manager does not agree, and it seems like he has picked Arsenal’s Noni Madueke instead.
That choice is a shambles, Bowen has more goal contributions (eight to two) and assists (10 to one) in the league, while also looking better from the underlying metrics.
Madueke has seven goals and four assists in all competitions, which is less than the Hammers star’s tally in both categories in just the league.
| Bowen vs Madueke in the league | Bowen | Madueke |
| Goals | 8 | 2 |
| Assists | 10 | 1 |
| Shots per game | 0.6 | 0.2 |
| Big chances created | 14 | 5 |
| Dribblers per game | 1.4 | 1 |
| Interceptions per game | 0.7 | 0.2 |
| Tackles per game | 1.3 | 0.8 |
Bowen averages 0.6 shots per game while the Gunners star makes just 0.2, per Sofascore, and the Irons man has created 14 big chances, compared to five for the Emirates ace.
The former Hull City man completes 1.4 dribbles per game compared to one for the Arsenal star, so he is more effective on the flanks.
Defensively, Bowen also wins out, making more interceptions (0.7 to 0.2), tackles (1.3 to 0.8) and clearances (one to 0.3) per game than his rival for the position.
Of course, there could be a reprieve when the squad is officially named on 22 May, but it seems like he has not made it.
Why might Tuchel have selected Madueke over Bowen?
Tuchel may have taken Madueke due to the fact that Mikel Arteta’s side won the Premier League, so he has trophy-winning momentum on his side.

However, while the Hammers are struggling, and may lose their top-flight status, Bowen has still been a standout performer.
His stats prove that he is the better man for the job and should be at the tournament, it does not feel very fair on the 29-year-old.
