Alphonse Areola: Partner of West Ham star takes dig at Nuno Espirito Santo – ‘Thank you’

Alphonse Areola’s partner has been less than impressed with Nuno Espirito Santo‘s tenure at West Ham United.

Championship football is coming to the London Stadium next season, which is a sentence that sums up the misery around East London.

The Hammers have had this coming for a while now, but it was made official by Tottenham’s 1-0 win at home to Everton on Sunday.

Nuno will take a lot of the blame for the season that the Irons have had, with some of the decisions made questionable to say the least.

And Areola’s partner has wasted no time in firing a dig at the boss after West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed.

Sarcastic ‘thank you’ message sent to Nuno

There are many players that can be blamed for this season’s downfall, and while Areola didn’t have the best campaign, he was not one of them.

The Frenchman was dropped in favour of Mads Hermansen at the start of the campaign, and that decision was repeated towards the latter stages of the season.

In a series of Instagram story posts, Areola’s partner has brought those decisions to light, while also blaming the West Ham boss for his omission from the France squad.

One post reads: “Being dropped at the beginning of the season for no reason. Being back after a very bad start and having then made 20 games, and all of a sudden, “I’m really sorry, you won’t start. For no particular reason, but I’m sorry.”

A second post reads: “And NO World Cup this year, thank you, coach Nuno.”

Areola’s West Ham future examined

The Frenchman now has just one year left on his contract at West Ham, and with Hermansen ahead of him in the pecking order, he’s unlikely to be first choice.

The same will be said about several players this summer, but an exit truly is looking like the most likely outcome.

At 33 years old, Areola will want to be playing football, and almost definitely in a top-flight league, which West Ham can no longer offer.

He’s been an excellent servant for West Ham since joining in 2021, but his stay at the London Stadium looks to be coming to an end, and these social media posts hint further towards that.
