Alan Shearer backtracks on West Ham relegation thoughts as ‘huge pressure’ alleviated
Alan Shearer was of the assumption that West Ham United were headed for Premier League relegation, but he has seen a big change under Nuno Espirito Santo recently.
The Hammers grabbed a 4-0 win over Wolves at the London Stadium on Friday, and people are starting to believe that Premier League survival is possible.
Nuno has been doing his best since he arrived in E20, but there may still be fears that things have clicked too late into the former Nottingham Forest boss’s tenure.
Players like Taty Castellanos, Pablo and even Adama Traore are starting to find their feet after signing in January, and the Irons are seemingly reaping the rewards.
West Ham have climbed out of the relegation zone with their win over Wolves, and Shearer believes Nuno deserves massive credit for it.

Alan Shearer holds his hands up in Nuno’s direction
West Ham leapfrogged Tottenham after they smashed Wolves, and the pressure seems to have gotten to their relegation rivals, who then lost 1-0 to Sunderland last Sunday, despite it being Roberto De Zerbi’s first game in charge.
Castellanos scored a magnificent brace against Rob Edwards’ side, while Axel Disasi provided another commanding display at the back, as supporters feel like everything is headed in the right direction.

While speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer revealed how he previously thought that the Hammers were destined for relegation, but highlighted what Nuno has done to change things.
Shearer said: “There was a time when I thought they were done, West Ham. But, to be fair to him [Nuno] and the players, he’s getting some big performances out of some players in that team.
“He’s given them belief, confidence, and is heaping huge pressure on the likes of [Nottingham] Forest, Tottenham.”
The former Newcastle striker then went on to explain how the Irons have form in their favour to survive a drop from the Premier League.

The way things are looking makes for a nice sight, but the job is far from done.
What are West Ham’s chances of survival?
Opta have Wolves and Burnley as 100 per cent certain for Premier League relegation, despite both sides being able to still mathematically stay up.
The readings have predicted Tottenham to stay where they are, as De Zerbi’s side has a high 46.50 per cent chance of going down.
However, with West Ham predicted to finish 17th, their estimated relegation rate is 36.03, with Nottingham Forest at under 10 per cent, despite being only one position ahead of the Irons.
West Ham have easy fixtures on paper, but they’ve also got to hope that things don’t start to click under De Zerbi.
