Crysencio Summerville injury return at West Ham clearly not far off amid Ronald Koeman talks

Crysencio Summerville looks set to return for West Ham United sooner than expected.

The in-form forward suffered an injury setback during the FA Cup victory against Brentford on March 9 and missed out on the 1-1 draw with Manchester City last time out.

That meant he was also not included in the Netherlands squad for friendlies against Norway and Ecuador – a cruel blow considering he has not yet made his senior bow for his country.

It is believed he was set to be called up by Ronald Koeman, but the minor issue forced him to withdraw and instead focus on working his way back to full fitness.

Nuno Espirito Santo will be desperate for Summerville to make a speedy comeback, but a new report has suggested he could be back for the Hammers in the very near future.

What did Crysencio Summerville tell the Netherlands?

Nuno has been tight-lipped over Summerville’s condition but did reveal the club would monitor him “day by day”, while also admitting he would “miss” the talented ace.

The 24-year-old has registered nine goal contributions since the turn of the year and is a major reason behind the Hammers’ revival in their Premier League survival fight.

Summerville’s 2025-26 Premier League statistics

According to Dutch publication De Telegraaf, Summerville had hoped to play against Aston Villa on Sunday, but that match, the last before the international break, has come too soon.

The same outlet has also claimed that the winger recently spoke to national boss Koeman, with the decision made not to risk him during the Netherlands’ two upcoming matches.

However, the mere fact that he had wanted to make a surprise appearance this weekend suggests that he is progressing very well indeed with his recovery.

As such, Summerville remains an option for the World Cup, and his spot on the plane should be all but guaranteed if he continues to lead West Ham away from the drop zone.

Summerville’s likely return date

Summerville is believed to have picked up a calf injury against Brentford, which can continue to haunt players throughout their careers if not addressed properly.

However, judging from his desire to play already, the issue is not severe.

That bodes very well indeed for Nuno, who can now surely expect to have the ace back in contention when the Irons host Leeds United in the FA Cup quarter-finals on April 5.

With a crucial run of make-or-break fixtures to come thick and fast after the international break, West Ham will be relying on Summerville to continue producing the goods.

His reward may be an opportunity to shine at the World Cup, and it would be richly deserved.
