Crysencio Summerville injury concerns linger as West Ham star misses out on maiden Netherlands call
Crysencio Summerville has missed out on his maiden call-up to the Netherlands squad after a team update on Friday, and it’s not exactly good news for West Ham.
Nuno Espirito Santo has remained tight-lipped on when his star winger will return, after he suffered an injury setback in the FA Cup win over Brentford.
The Dutchman has arguably been the most in-form player at the London Stadium in recent weeks, and will have surely been in line to earn his first call-up by Ronald Koeman.
However, as revealed by the Netherlands’ official X account on Friday, there is no sight of the Hammers’ main man.
Nuno will be hoping for Summerville to return sooner rather than later, but this isn’t exactly a great indication for any injury progression.

What West Ham may have said to the Netherlands about Crysencio Summerville
Summerville has been on fire for West Ham, and Nuno will be aware of how big a miss he will be going into what are some crucial games for the Hammers.
The Irons may have actually told the Netherlands that they are unwilling to let the 24-year-old leave for international duty due to his ongoing injury concern.
| Games | 24 |
| Goals | 5 |
| Assists | 1 |
| Successful dribbles per 90 | 1.59 |
| Tackles per 90 | 1.50 |
| Successful passes | 403 |
Under FIFA rules, clubs are obliged to let players leave for international duties if they are called up, but injuries do complicate things.
The Hammers have most likely reported that their player is not fit to travel in this case, if he was initially set to join up with his nation for the first time in his career.
If the Netherlands really wanted to, if this were the situation, they could have requested a medical assessment, which then would have ruled him out.
Then again, Summerville has never been called up to his national team, but given his form, it’s surely only an indication that he’s suffered a more serious problem than first imagined.
When could Summerville return?
Summerville’s issue is that he has a calf problem, which is an injury that can recur for a player in their career.
But it’s not always serious, and there have been no reports to state that it’s a tear or anything worse, which would then possibly be a future problem.

A mild calf strain can keep a player out for one to three weeks, but anything moderate can see a player sidelined for up to six weeks.
Let’s hope Summerville can be repaired quickly at Rush Green, because Nuno needs everyone fit for what is a crucial batch of games coming up after the break.
