West Ham United Women announce exit as Katelin Talbert completes Tottenham loan transfer
West Ham United Women have confirmed that Katelin Talbert has joined WSL rivals Tottenham Hotspur on loan.
The Hammers announced via their website on Saturday (7 September) that the 25-year-old keeper will join Spurs on a temporary basis until the end of 2024 just two weeks before the season gets underway in East London.
Talbert spent last season on loan in Sweden with Djurgårdens IF having joined the Hammers in the summer of 2023 having left Portuguese champions Benfica at the end of her contract.
The American stopper is yet to make an appearance for Rehane Skinner’s side and had been spent on loan to Djurgårdens in a bid to help her accumulate the points needed for an International Sportsperson visa.
Are West Ham Women close to any new signings?
It has certainly come as a surprise to see the Hammers willingly deal with Spurs in the transfer window. Typically these two clubs don’t tend to negotiate with one another let alone help each other out with loan deals.
It seems strange that the Hammers were willing to let Talbert move across London to strengthen a rival, especially after the Irons only narrowly managed to avoid relegation from the WSL last season.
Talbert may not have played a competitive fixture in claret and blue, but she is incredibly highly regarded so it is certainly surprising to see West Ham loan her out, especially when Skinner’s side is already incredibly light on numbers.
With only a week left of the transfer window, the Hammers seriously need to get their act together and make some signings sooner rather than later.
Not only are they risking upsetting supporters, but their current business is only increasing their chances of relegation this term. Something needs to change if Skinner’s side wants to remain in the WSL this season.
