West Ham confirm Brasero deal as delighted manager speaks out

West Ham United have confirmed the signing of Sarah Brasero.

The England Under-23 international has joined the Hammers on a three-year deal from Portuguese outfit Estoril Praia.

Brasero, 20, moved to Estoril in 2024 from Women’s Championship side Lewes, and will wear the number 21 shirt.

West Ham endured a poor end to a steady season in the Women’s Super League last season, finishing ninth after winning just two of their final eight league games.

Rehanne Skinner can’t hide her delight as Brasero announced

Brasero moves on to her third English club, having come through the Ipswich Town academy, helping the Suffolk reach the FA Women’s Cup quarter-final in 2022.

The midfielder couldn’t hide her excitement at returning to England following her year in Portugal, heavily praising her new manager Rehanne Skinner.

Speaking to West Ham’s website on Monday (14 July) after the news was confirmed, head coach Rehanne Skinner said: “I am delighted to welcome Sarah to West Ham United.

“Sarah is an exciting homegrown talent, with a hard-working attitude and a real desire to learn and improve.

“Having played in the England age-group squads for a number of years, it’s clear that she has a lot of potential.

“We have no doubt Sarah’s creativity will add huge value to our squad and I look forward to working with her to fulfil that potential.”

West Ham can progress with more young signings

The Hammers have been quiet so far this window, with Brasero becoming their first signing of the summer.

West Ham currently possess several young talents within their squad, including Jessica Ziu and international team Anouk Denton, who helped bring the young midfielder to the London Stadium.

With such a small gap between the mid table teams in the Women’s Super League, with just eight points separating 5th and 11th, developing these young players can drag the Hammers up the table in no time.
