West Ham board send message to Rehanne Skinner as women’s team boss is sacked

West Ham United have confirmed the dismissal of women’s team manager Rehanne Skinner.

Skinner, who had previous spells at Tottenham, England and Leicester City, was appointed by the Hammers back in the summer of 2023.

The 46-year-old has now been sacked after two and a half years with the East London outfit, who currently sit 11th in the Women’s Super League with just five points.

West Ham have won just one game all season, beating Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park back in the middle of November.

West Ham confirm reason for Rehanne Skinner’s departure

West Ham gave Skinner a new contract back in April, but have now decided that she has taken the Hammers as far as she can.

As it stands, the East London side are in real danger of dropping into WSL 2, just two points above Liverpool, who are in the WSL’s sole relegation spot.

In a statement on the club’s website on Thursday, West Ham announced that Skinner will leave the club with immediate effect due to recent results not matching expectations.

The Hammers added that the board of directors believe change is the only option to improve the team’s position in the WSL as soon as possible.

West Ham also thanked Skinner for her spell at the helm and confirmed that the process of finding her replacement is underway.

Rehanne Skinner failed to impress at West Ham

Skinner became West Ham’s first female manager in the WSL era when she was appointed back in July 2023.

However, her time with the East London club has underwhelmed, and the board were left with no choice but to sack her, with the team’s top-flight status on the line.

In her first campaign in charge, Skinner led West Ham to an 11th-place finish in the WSL, nine points clear of bottom side Bristol City, who were relegated to the WSL 2.

The situation improved slightly last term, with the Hammers picking up 23 points and ending the season in ninth, just five points behind fifth-place Brighton.

The 2025-26 campaign has been a big step backward, though, which has ultimately led to Skinner’s dismissal.
