Karren Brady reacts as West Ham Women finalise major behind-the-scenes deal

West Ham United have enjoyed a steady season in the Women’s Super League this year, with two fixtures left to play.

Rehanne Skinner has steered the Hammers into seventh position so far, with the potential still available to catch both Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion, two points above them.

The women’s department at the London Stadium have announced some key news for their management, with Karren Brady reacting to the development.

Brady ‘very excited’ after Skinner signs contract

Baroness Brady is director of the women’s team board as well as vice-chair of West Ham United, and she revealed her huge excitement to retain Skinner for next season.

The former Tottenham Hotspur Women head coach joined the Irons in 2023, and has also managed Leicester City, while coaching at England, Wales and Arsenal.

The 45-year-old was nominated for the WSL Manager of the Month award for March, with West Ham coming through matches unbeaten against Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham and leaders Chelsea.

“This is an important step forward for West Ham United Women,” Brady told the Hammers’ official website (29 April).

Rehanne’s commitment to improve the women’s team has been evident for everyone to see, and we are all aligned with what needs to be done to keep progressing in a highly competitive Barclays Women’s Super League.

“The past 18 months has created a sense of momentum and unity for the women’s team and we are very excited about what the future holds for our supporters.”

West Ham Women are guaranteed a strong finish in the WSL this season, smashing Crystal Palace by a 7-1 scoreline last Sunday (27 April) to reinforce the fantastic mood around the place.

They have been unbeaten since 2 March, when they were eked out 4-3 by Arsenal to finish on the wrong side of a seven-goal thriller.

West Ham Women going for more next season

West Ham have shown excellent progress in recent weeks in the WSL, having gone toe-to-toe with clubs boasting ludicrous resources comparatively.

The Irons are in buoyant mood with Skinner’s future having been sealed, and two games left to play before the league campaign comes to a close.

West Ham want to finish strongly after their manager signed a new deal

West Ham host their final league fixture this Sunday (4 May) against 10th-placed Aston Villa, who have struggled this season but won their last two matches.

On the final day (10 May), the Hammers travel to 11th-placed Leicester City, whose fate is now safe after Skinner’s side did them a great favour, relegating bottom side Palace with the 7-1 thrashing at the weekend.
