West Ham’s famous Arsenal win revisited 10 years on as Nuno Espirito Santo targets repeat
West Ham are preparing for a statement win at Emirates Stadium on Saturday when they take on Arsenal.
Nuno Espirito Santo wants West Ham to “compete” against Arsenal, as he has no reason to believe that the Hammers can’t pull off a victory.
Nuno is expected to make changes to his side after getting his first impressions of his players when West Ham drew 1-1 with Everton.
It would be quite the achievement, but Nuno will be looking to replicate West Ham‘s iconic visit to The Emirates that took place just over 10 years ago.

West Ham stunned Arsenal 2-0 at Emirates Stadium in 2015
West Ham are underdogs against Arsenal, but they’ve been there and done it before. Nuno has urged that his side will play “The West Ham Way”, as a classic smash and grab could be on he cards.
In 2015, Hammers boss Slaven Bilic boldly started with a 16-year-old academy graduate Reece Oxford in midfield against The Gunners.
Youth prospect Freddie Potts has been touted to start against Arsenal, as history could repeat itself.
- Cheikhou Kouyate scored at the end of the first half, getting on the end of a delicious Dimitri Payet free-kick
- Strike Mauro Zarate doubled the Hammers’ lead in minute 57
- West Ham ran away with three points and a 2-0 victory at The Emirates
Arsenal are hopeful of achieving their Premier League dream this season, but there is a weapon Nuno can utilise against the Gunners.
Set-pieces could be key for Nuno Espirito Santo’s West Ham vs Arsenal
Arsenal’s star man Gabriel was forced off the field with a suspected shoulder injury in their Champions League win over Olympiacos.
Gabriel’s potential absence for the Gunners is key to West Ham’s path to victory.
Nuno has built winning teams that have major success from set-pieces, and it’s an area that he will no doubt look to capitalise on at The Emirates.
Jarrod Bowen was on the scoresheet in last year’s fixture as West Ham beat Arsenal 1-0 away from home. A win is certainly not out of the question for Nuno’s side.
