‘Deserves that’, ‘Smashing it’ – Some West Ham fans thrilled as Rice scores for England

West Ham fans have reacted after Declan Rice scored his first England goal in his country’s 4-0 win over Iceland on Wednesday.

Rice opened the scoring at Wembley, steering home an excellent cross which showed off the 21-year-old’s understated aerial prowess.

The Hammers midfielder then played the rest of the game as a Mason Mount goal and a Phil Foden brace secured a 4-0 win for Gareth Southgate’s side in their final UEFA Nations League group game.

In scoring England’s first, Rice became the first West Ham player to score for England since Matthew Upson scored against Germany at the World Cup in 2010.

Rice was exceptional all night. According to Wyscout, he registered a 98% passing accuracy against Iceland which is astonishing.

The 21-year-old also made eight interceptions as he did a brilliant job of cutting out Iceland’s attacks.

The goal was Rice’s first in any competitive game this season and he will be glad to be back amongst the goals ahead of the return of Premier League football.

Some Hammers fans took to social media to share their pride after Rice notched his first England goal while one claimed that West Ham legend Geoff Hurst ‘would have been proud’ if he’d scored Rice’s goal.

Rice will be looking to help his club side to another win this weekend when the Hammers travel to Bramall Lane to play a Sheffield United side who are still yet to win in the league this season.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have reportedly been offered the services of a former Premier League striker.
