West Ham youth gem has opporunity to grab after loan decision made
After the appointment of Graham Potter as West Ham manager, the academy players at The London Stadium will no doubt be looking to the future with optimism.
The new manager has been characterised for his ability to work with talented young players and help them make the step up into the top flight.
Therefore, while the boss does need to see immediate improvement from his first team squad in this moment, he will not be scared to give young players who deserve it the chance.
This has already been shown with Oliver Scarles who has been given the opportunity to take the step up to the first team since Potter’s arrival.
Therefore, a loan move to Colchester United for Michael Forbes [West Ham, 30 January] should serve as an exciting opportunity.
Michael Forbes has to take loan opportunity given to him
The 20-year-old is yet to make a dent in the first team but is clearly highly rated in East London given he signed a contract extension a year ago, which keeps him at the club until 2026.
Furthermore, with one senior Northern Ireland international cap under his belt so far, it shows that there is plenty to be unleashed.
It has been a difficult season for the centre-back so far after getting injured while on loan with Bristol Rovers which led his parent club to recall him.
However, his recovery from a hamstring injury has clearly progressed well with the opportunity to go to Essex for the remainder of the season giving the youngster another chance to get going.

The 20-year-old will be hoping to stay fit and show what he can do in League Two, getting vital first-team minutes under his belt.
Potter will be looking out to see how his young players are getting on in the hope of uncovering the players he can work with at a higher level at The London Stadium in order to get them ready for the next stage.
With that in mind, all Forbes can do is take the opportunity that has been gifted and go all out to impress the manager at both his parent and loan club.
