West Ham United snap up player after Manchester United exit
West Ham United have secured the signature of Majid Balogun, a recent Manchester United academy graduate released from Old Trafford.
Balogun announced his move on Instagram on Thursday (July 11), posting a photo of himself signing his contract with the caption “back to it.”
The 16-year-old striker joined United from Lambeth Tigers in 2022 and made the bench for the club’s U18s once last season prior to his release. Now at West Ham, he will hope for more opportunities to show his potential.
West Ham may have a hidden gem in Majid Balogun
Since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, Manchester United have consistently produced world-class talent from their academy. From Marcus Rashford to Paul Pogba and now Kobe Mainoo, the club has been a breeding ground for footballing excellence.
However, the abundance of talent in United’s academy means some promising players are inevitably released. Balogun is one such player, leaving Old Trafford to join the Hammers.
Despite showing promise at Manchester United, Balogun was not offered a professional contract. Yet, at just 16, he has plenty of time to develop and might flourish within West Ham’s structure.
While Manchester United have seen numerous academy players break into their first team, West Ham will be hoping Balogun is a talent that slipped through the cracks and will shine for the Hammers.

The East London club is also known for helping young talents grow, so it could be the perfect place for Balogun to shine and reach his full potential.
Balogun’s got talent and a real drive to prove himself. Now that he’s settling in at his new club, everyone will be watching to see how he handles the new challenge.
