Lewis Orford to catch eye of Graham Potter after Premier League announcement

Graham Potter will be looking towards the end of the Premier League season with desperation, knowing there is plenty of work to be done before next term.

The boss has struggled to turn things around since his arrival at the London Stadium, with his side sitting 17th in the Premier League table.

Although Potter will be eager to add to his side in the summer transfer window, PSR restrictions will have their part to play and the Irons may need to be prepared to look for other options.

Luckily for the manager, youth star Lewis Orford has caught the eye once more.

Premier League make new Orford announcement

Orford has been able to get two Premier League appearances under his belt this season, although with his side struggling, it has left little room for the Irons to be too experimental.

However, at youth level, the 19-year-old has been a regular part of the side as the West Ham youngsters have pushed on to plenty of success this term.

It has been somewhat of a breakthrough season for the midfielder, having captained England under-19s as well as excelling in his role with the Hammers.

Now, the Premier League have announced that Orford has been named the Premier League 2 player of the month for April, having been selected by the Premier League’s Football Development Panel.

In the month, the youngster scored three goals and registered an assist.

Potter has to offer Orford the chance to shine

Potter has never shied away from turning to young players in his previous roles, developing them into solid first-team assets.

Ollie Scarles has stepped up under the boss and become a regular part of the Hammers’ squad, upping his Premier League minutes and experience.

Therefore, with potential worries at West Ham over PSR restrictions and plenty of additions needed, Potter has to be prepared to allow Orford to prove himself in pre-season.

In fact, with nothing left to play for in the final run of games, there is no reason why the boss couldn’t allow him to get a run out before the season concludes.

A player of the month award is certainly a deserving way to top off the season for the young star and remind the first team that he is certainly ready to be looked at.
