Graham Potter gets fresh new option after what West Ham youth gem did

Graham Potter is desperately waiting for the season to end as his side continues to suffer in the Premier League.

Although Potter guided his side away from the relegation zone, the boss has failed to gain momentum with the Hammers and his side are now without a win in seven games.

The boss will be keen to put his own stamp on things in the summer transfer window but there is plenty of work to be done in East London to create the necessary change.

Potter facing big transfer window with West Ham

The changes needed to give West Ham what they need to develop are monumental and the boss has a big restructuring on his hands if he is to guide the Hammers up the Premier League table.

West Ham’s last five
Brighton (A)3-2
Southampton (H)1-1
Liverpool (A)2-1
Bournemouth (H)2-2
Wolves (A)1-0
West Ham are struggling.

However, as much as he would like to spend, the Irons will have to be mindful of PSR constraints in the summer transfer window and therefore, measured in their business.

David Sullivan is said to be prepared to work closely with Potter and Kyle Macaulay to pull off the appropriate business and the chief will have to be prepared to put some money in to reflect that.

That being said, with the amount of change necessary, there will have to be some bargains to be struck and Potter will have to be shrewd in his business.

This is not something new for the manager, though, who is known for the work he has done with young players at previous clubs and he may have to start looking internally for some answers.

Ollie Scarles is proof that Potter isn’t afraid to use what’s already there and the youngster has been thrown in at the deep end throughout the end of the season.

Lewis Orford shines in West Ham youth win

Potter will be pleased about the fact that West Ham have a strong youth set-up with plenty of promising talent in the ranks.

The under-21s team secured their place in the Premier League 2 play-off quarter-finals on Saturday (26 April), with a 3-1 win against Sunderland seeing them through.

Lewis Orford was on the scoresheet, netting the second goal with a strike from the edge of the box, which he placed perfectly in the bottom corner of the goal.

While the likes of Freddie Potts have succeeded on loan, Orford already has two substitute appearances in the Premier League, which suggests that a move away from East London would be going backwards in his progression.

Potter will not be able to replace the entire squad in the summer transfer window, but he could certainly do worse than looking at the option given to him in Orford during pre-season and potentially giving him a pathway into the first team as he continues to prove himself at youth level.
