Freddie Potts injury update emerges after what happened away from West Ham

West Ham have not had the best luck when it comes to injuries this season, with several key players ruled out for long periods.

However, with Jarrod Bowen having now returned to action at the London Stadium, Graham Potter will be looking ahead to better times.

The injury curse has even hit the Irons away from Rush Green though, with Freddie Potts the latest to be struck.

Freddie Potts injury update at Portsmouth

One man who has certainly established himself away from West Ham is Potts, on loan at Portsmouth.

The 21-year-old has made himself a regular in the Pompey side and has a run of 27 successive appearances, with 25 of those starts, under his belt on the South Coast.

However, the young star missed their 2-1 victory against Cardiff City on Tuesday (11 February) and Pompey boss John Mousinho confirmed it was an injury that kept him out.

Mousinho told The News (12 February) that the midfielder is set to miss a couple of games, saying: “Freddie felt his calf at the weekend and we scanned it on Monday.

“It’s nothing major, he’s going to be out for about 10 days and hopefully back for QPR (22 February).

“I would say he’s 50/50 for Oxford. I just think with where we are going at the moment and the way that every pitch is, being really heavy with the rainfall we’ve had, it is probably not worth risking him.”

Freddie Potts can make it at West Ham

Mousinho will be very glad it’s not a serious injury blow for a player who has been a crucial part of his squad this term and West Ham should be just as pleased.

After spending last season on loan with Wycombe in League One and excelling, Potts made the step up to the Championship and has certainly delivered in the way his parent club would’ve hoped, establishing himself as one of Pompey’s most crucial players.

If he can keep his standards up until the end of the season, Potter could very easily find himself giving Potts a bigger opportunity to step up to the first-team which would be a massive development for him.

Therefore, it is relieving news that the midfielder is not set for too long out on the sidelines and there is no doubt the youngster will be ready to show what he can do for the remainder of the season with an eye kept on East London.

The Hammers boss is known for his ability to work with young players and bring them up to an established level, so anyone who impresses in East London could easily be a part of that.
