Word from West Ham United emerges as transfer decision on Declan Rice emphatically made

West Ham rejected Arsenal’s first bid for club captain Declan Rice on Thursday, as reported by The Guardian.

The report (15 June) states that Arsenal’s first bid was £80million plus around £10million in add-ons for a potential total package of £90million, and this offer was rejected almost immediately by West Ham.

Journalist Charles Watts has now detailed the reason for the bid being rejected on his YouTube channel (16 June) and points to the fact that the Hammers were not happy with the details of the bonuses and add-ons included in the offer.

“The word from the West Ham side was that those add-ons weren’t deemed realistic,” Watts explained.

“I think it was Arsenal winning the Premier League or the Champions League, they weren’t happy with it so they rejected it.”

Easy no

Arsenal could not have expected this first bid to be accepted by West Ham. With the Hammers holding out for more than £100million, a bid of £80million plus only £10million in add-ons was never going to be expected, especially with such tough add-ons to achieve.

With the likes of Manchester City around, it is far from a guarantee that Arsenal will win the Premier League and considering the club has never won the Champions League in its history, for those add-ons to even be suggested is simply quite ridiculous.

With other clubs sure to be lurking around in the hunt for Rice, Arsenal will need to make sure they come back with a much-improved bid and do not irritate West Ham. If they are not careful in negotiations, they could concede their chances of landing the 24-year-old club captain and let another club swoop in and steal him for themselves.

It is likely Rice will leave, but it seems a little less clear right now as to where he will go.
