Wolves drop interest in Aaron Cresswell due to FFP concerns, West Ham United stay on the cards

Aaron Cresswell’s West Ham exit has collapsed after Wolves dropped their interest due to FFP concerns, according to the Daily Express.

Writing on their official website (3 August), the newspaper report that the player has been trying to force through a move away from the London Stadium.

It was previously reported that he wasn’t training with the squad and that a deal had stalled with West Ham demanding £5m to let him leave, but now the Midlands club have dropped their interest in the 33-year-old left-back and he looks set to stay at the club.

“Experienced left-back Aaron Cresswell has also recently attempted to force through a transfer to Wolves but Julen Lopetegui’s side have since dropped their interest amid ongoing FFP concerns,” they wrote.

Ouch

Well, that’s certainly inconvenient for Cresswell when you consider the lengths he has reportedly gone through to get this deal over the line.

The veteran was reportedly in line for the West Ham captaincy after Declan Rice’s £105m move to Arsenal, but he has been pushing to leave in order to take up a more lucrative and longer contract with Wolves instead.

But with Wolves unable to pay what West Ham want due to their FFP constraints, a deal is now off the table and Cresswell will need to find a new alternative to leave or come back with his tail between his legs to get back into the setup at West Ham.

How fans will react to him isn’t clear right now but thankfully he isn’t first-choice as it stands, with Emerson Palmieri ahead of him in the pecking order at left-back.

Should we be able to bring a new left-back in the situation could potentially change later in the window, but for now it’s looking rough for Cresswell.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have “gone quiet” on another transfer despite knowing £15m gets it done.
