Why West Ham are being mentioned in race for red-hot striker Nicolo Tresoldi
Nicolo Tresoldi is one of the hottest striking talents in Europe right now, yet West Ham United appear to be in the hunt for his signature.
The 22-year-old has scored goals for fun for Germany Under-21s and likewise for Club Brugge at club level.
Tresoldi has 32 goals in 69 appearance for the Belgian side, including a hat-trick in a recent 3-2 win away at Inter Milan.
That made him the youngest German to score a Champions League hat-trick.
It is unsurprising that Tresoldi, who also qualifies for Italy and Argentina, is a name on a lot of teams' radars ahead of January.
And it may well be that West Ham could be in the hunt for Tresoldi amid a new update emerging from abroad.
What has been mentioned about West Ham and Nicolo Tresoldi?
Tresoldi has four goals in his last two appearances, having also scored against RAAL La Louviere in the Pro League prior to his San Siro treble.
As per a report from HLN on Tuesday, scouts from numerous clubs across the continent are now flocking to Club Brugge games to watch the striker.
West Ham are named as one of the teams that will have scouts present for Wednesday's Champions League clash between Brugge and Lens at Jan Breydel Stadion.
However, West Ham are up against some serious heavyweights when it comes to monitoring Tresoldi.
Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid are also mentioned, as are Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.
There are plenty of other English clubs interested, including Everton, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, Leeds United, Bournemouth and Aston Villa.
How much would West Ham have to pay for Nicolo Tresoldi?
This is where further cold water is poured on any realistic hopes West Ham have of signing Tresoldi.
It has been reported that it will take a fee in excess of £50million to sign the striker.
That is not something West Ham are capable of while in the Championship, and not even when back in the Premier League until settled once again.
Having scouts present gives a chance to run the rule over other players, and it may well be that there are more realistic targets on display in midweek.
But any chance West Ham have of signing Tresoldi have to be considered extremely slim at best.
