Why Man United move for Crysencio Summerville may have just become far more complicated
West Ham continue to wait on the future of Crysencio Summerville.
The Netherlands international is coming off the back of a summer at the World Cup with his nation.
That has afforded him an extended break and he is yet to return to Rush Green for pre-season.
Questions are still swirling around the 24-year-old as he continues to be linked with a move away from the London Stadium.
That isn't a surprise after a positive campaign, despite the Hammers facing relegation at the end of it.
Manchester United have shown a keen interest in Summerville and are now waiting before they can truly make their move.
Manchester United miss sale chance to fund Crysencio Summerville deal
The Red Devils may be 20-time league title winners and one of the biggest clubs in the world, but are still being impacted by financial rules.
They have already moved to sign Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans this summer and now have their sights set on further moves.
West Ham News has previously covered Man United's keen interest in Summerville.
They may want the Dutchman, but before they can make a move happen, they likely need to sell Marcus Rashford.
That may now prove more difficult than it once did after David Ornstein reported on Thursday that his £40million exit clause has expired at Old Trafford.
Any move away from the Red Devils must now be negotiated, while any approaches will now be considered in fresh talks.
There is also a chance that he sticks around, but that could see Summerville seal a move elsewhere.
Obvious exit destination remains for Summerville
It looks like a three-horse race for the attacking midfielder this summer.
Man United and Aston Villa have been linked, but Roma are the only side to physicalise their interest.
The Serie A outfit are reportedly willing to pay around £34m for his signature and have held talks with Summerville's representatives.
They are now waiting on a response from West Ham and could be poised to win the race should Man United fall away.
If they can't sell Rashford, it feels unlikely that they can make a deal happen.
