According to Sky Sports, Nelson is firmly on West Ham's radar with the Hammers now exploring how to go about the transfer.

The E20 outfit are looking to sign the Premier League winger on a loan deal ahead of the upcoming season.

It remains to be seen if those are conditions that the Gunners will be open to agreeing to.

Nelson is in his final contract year at the Emirates, and a loan would mean they do not receive any fee.

But it would also see Nelson's wages lifted off the Premier League champions books, a financial incentive to allow a loan.

Nelson's time at Arsenal is unlikely to yield much gametime, however, as he spent the last two season out on loan at Fulham and Brentford.

He was also an unused substitute in Arsenal's 3-2 defeat in pre-season to Borussia Dortmund today (9 August).

What would Nelson bring to West Ham?

Nelson could be a shrewd pick-up for the Hammers, as he is capable of playing on either wing.

That would allow Nuno more options for his starting line-ups while allowing him to rotate his attackers freely.

Additionally, across a long season with plenty of fixtures and likely congestion, there will be injuries that pop up.

Nelson would also arrive with Premier League experience, which could be useful at a division one step lower.

So, with his experience and tactical flexibility, Nelson could certainly improve the Irons' squad.
