What next as Jean-Clair Todibo finally agrees terms to quit West Ham United
Jean-Clair Todibo appears to be finally on the verge of leaving West Ham United.
The Frenchman has been on the chopping block for what feels like months at the London Stadium.
Despite signing permanently last summer, he was rarely used in the Premier League as relegation was confirmed.
That was mainly down to a fallout with Nuno Espirito Santo, who came in as a new hire shortly into the season.
Todibo never bounced back from that, with his attitude heavily questioned at Rush Green throughout.
And with the Championship season set to get underway, Todibo should be nowhere to be seen.
Todibo agrees next transfer, but there's a catch
Todibo has finally agreed to leave, coming to terms with Marseille.
Santi Aouna has reported that the Ligue 1 club has a verbal agreement with the defender.
That comes after hours of trying to convince him that they're the right destination for his career.
It's said that Marseille are pushing for a loan agreement with West Ham.
Even that will depend on certain departures, though, with money not exactly flowing at the Stade Velodrome.
Marseille have serious financial issues
There is currently a "everything must go" in the playing squad rule at the French club, who have serious issues.
That continues, despite Mason Greenwood, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Geronimo Rulli being sold already.
After missing a final target in a 2022 settlement with UEFA, they were fined again recently, also breaching the squad-cost rule in 2025
Frank McCourt, their American owner, has also invested just under £600m since 2016, but that will no longer happen.
So, West Ham don't really stand to benefit from Todibo's loan exit there, should it happen.
But, with his attitude and lack of takers so far, if they can get his wages off the books for another year, it may be seen a deal worth doing.
Nuno wants nothing to do with him, with Konstantinos Mavropanos and Max Kilman set to start the league season together.
For West Ham, transfer fees aren't necessarily needed after the huge sales of Crysencio Summerville and Mateus Fernandes.
Either way, expect Todibo to be out of the door very soon.
