Surprise twist in Jean-Clair Todibo exit after 'complete meltdown' at West Ham United

Jean-Clair Todibo is quickly approaching the exit door at West Ham.

The French defender has been destined to leave the London Stadium for months now.

That's after a very public fallout with Nuno Espirito Santo, which saw him left behind in the Premier League relegation battle.

Axel Disasi took his spot, and very quickly became a fan favourite while on loan from Chelsea.

While many expected Todibo to leave West Ham quickly, it has been dragged out throughout the summer.

And now, only one week from things getting underway properly, West Ham are finally closing in on a solution.

Jean-Clair Todibo meltdown finally nearly over

West Ham Zone has frequently covered the heavy interest from Italy in signing Todibo this summer.

That continues to increase with each passing day.

Alfredo Pedulla has now reported that Todibo will be "back in Serie A", with "surprise" new contacts from Atalanta.

That is on top of interest from Napoli, as well as an offer to head to France with Marseille, if wanted.

Atalanta have made their move with an approach to West Ham, with Todibo's spell there described as a "complete meltdown", after moving there instead of the Italians before.

What next in defence for West Ham United?

With Disasi returning to Chelsea, there are several question marks hanging around the back four.

Konstantinos Mavropanos and Max Kilman are still around, but not many would want the latter starting every week, even in the Championship.

Thankfully, Oliver Scarles, El Hadji Malick-Diouf, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kyle Walker-Peters have gone nowhere, so full-backs are sorted.

With Mads Hermansen in goal, it's just the heart of defence that needs real work.

Todibo eventually moving on could be critical to that, clearing his wages and opening the door to a new starting defender.

Nuno will not care in the slightest, as the French defender thinks he is far better than he ever actually proved.

It would be no surprise if Todibo was swallowed whole in the Championship, with bruising strikers taking no prisoners.
