Niclas Fullkrug has been touted to leave West Ham this summer and Werder Bremen are among the contenders.

The German striker has ultimately been a flop at London Stadium following his £27million move back in the summer of 2024.

West Ham would be incredibly lucky to receive even close to that fee as the 33-year-old looks set for a summer exit.

And Werder Bremen have now reacted to the possibility of a deal for the 24-cap German international.

Getting Fullkrug off the books would hand the Hammers a financial boost as they look to ease the financial burden of relegation.

But a move away will not be straightforward as per the latest on Fullkrug, so what could be holding up a deal?

What is blocking Niclas Fullkrug's transfer to Werder Bremen?

Fullkrug is currently set to return to West Ham's pre-season as he is still contracted with the Hammers.

Both the player and Irons will be looking to resolve his future as soon as possible.

The forward has not been a success and is on quite the steep wages at London Stadium, and a return to Germany had been touted.

However, according to the Friday, 3 July edition of BILD's newspaper, Fullkrug's potential move to Werder Bremen is now unlikely due to multiple reasons.

On one hand, the German side would have to pay a fee as the 33-year-old still has a contract with West Ham.

But, more importantly, his wages, reported by BILD at €4.5million per year, which converts roughly into £73,000 per week, are proving too high.

Fullkrug "would have to make extreme cuts in salary" in order to make any move feasible to the Bundesliga side.

Finally, Bremen have concerns over the striker's injury history as well.

However, the report does state that "everything looks like he is leaving" West Ham, but it will not be for Werder Bremen.

Where else could Fullkrug transfer to?

With Bremen off the table, Fullkrug still has plenty of other options this summer window.

Most of those appear to be emerging out of Italy despite his generally poor spell with AC Milan.

Fullkrug scored just one goal during his loan spell, where he made 20 Serie A appearances.

Fiorentina and Venezia are looking at Fullkrug, and Wolfsburg were an option prior to their relegation.

However, just like Werder Bremen, they are now unable to afford the terms of any deal for the veteran striker.
