West Ham’s bleak goalkeeping situation deepens as deal terminated by the Hammers
Nuno Espirito Santo has many areas that he needs to worry about, and his first-choice goalkeeper is one.
Mads Hermansen has failed so far at West Ham after joining the Hammers permanently from a recently relegated Leicester City.
Hermansen could now make it two Premier League relegations in a row, as West Ham are tipped for the Championship following the hard-to-watch loss to Leeds on Friday night.
Alphonse Areola has also been on a decline in recent times at West Ham, as a decision the Hammers just made, highlights the mess that the Irons currently find themselves in.

Fin Herrick to join West Ham’s first-team squad amid loan recall
Teenage sensation Fin Herrick was loaned out to National League side Boreham Wood on what was supposed to be a season-long loan, as the latter confirmed on Wednesday that the Hammers have cut the deal short.
Herrick signed a long-term contract with West Ham in 2024, as the Hammers see the young goalkeeper as a player who can have an impact for the Irons in the future.
While on loan, Herrick barely put a foot wrong, as his statistics were immaculate.
| Games | Clean sheets | Goals conceded |
| 10 | 5 | 7 |
Before Herrick’s first start for Boreham Wood, the club conceded three goals in a 4-3 win over Sutton United.
Herrick was on the bench against Sutton, as manager Luke Garrard then made the decision to put his faith in the youngster, which was repaid by his fantastic performances.
The young keeper is expected to now link up with West Ham‘s first team, as Areola and Hermansen’s form has clearly worried Nuno enough.

What have Boreham Wood fans said about Herrick?
Herrick was progressing very well at Boreham Wood, so for the Hammers to cut the deal short seems very bizarre if the youngster isn’t to feature in future Premier League matchday squads.
It’s safe to say that Boreham Wood fans were upset about the news, as they were truly in safe hands with Herrick in between the sticks.
- @DavePutman_ – “Real shame – he’s been brilliant. Great future ahead of him no doubt.”
- @callsignhaunted – “And there’s our title fight gone.”
- @Mason4518746141 – “So we’re kinda cooked.”
With Boreham Wood fans clearly very impressed with the impact Herrick had for them, it would be no surprise to see Nuno show more faith in the youngsters at West Ham, especially if Areola and Hermansen don’t up their game.
