West Ham will step up their interest in Scott McTominay after Declan Rice deal is done

West Ham will step up in their interest in bringing Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay to the club once Declan Rice’s move to Arsenal is finalised, according to the Independent.

The Irons will wait for Rice to officially leave the club before moving for McTominay, who they have a strong interest in bringing to the club this summer, with the £105million move set to put the wheels in motion for a number of deals in East London.

Manchester United are willing to let McTominay leave the club to aid in funding a move for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, with West Ham showing their interest in the midfielder as well as a potential loan move for Harry Maguire.

Another very good option

McTominay is another very good option for West Ham to bring in, as they seek multiple options to replace departing captain Rice, and are being linked to several midfielders both from English clubs and abroad.

It cannot be understated how important it is for a club to bring in home-grown talent who can also improve their first XI, as it kills two birds with one stone in meeting Premier League regulations while ensuring the team stays competitive and doesn’t suffer as a result of either side.

McTominay has also attracted interest from Newcastle United this summer, proving his worth with Champions League interest, so if West Ham can do a deal for the midfielder under the nose of Premier League rivals it would provide an added bonus.

His defensive ability also cannot be understated, as he is in the 98th percentile for aerial duels won among Premier League midfielders, and in the 99th percentile for clearances [stats from FBref.com]. These stats would make him an ideal player for David Moyes’ style.
