West Ham want to sign Sampdoria midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard
West Ham are battling a number of Premier League and European giants in the race to sign Sampdoria winger Mikkel Damsgaard, according to Sabah.
The Turkish news outlet made the claim on their verified Twitter profile on Sunday morning [04/07/21], nearly five months after the Daily Star first reported Irons interest in the 21-year-old.
Sabah wrote: “Mikkel Damsgaard, one of the young stars of Denmark, who created wonders in EURO 2020, is being followed by giants. Barcelona, Juventus, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Leeds United, AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, West Ham and Crystal Palace are interested in the Sampdoria player.”
Breakout summer
Damsgaard had a fair bit of hype surrounding him when he made the move from FC Nordsjælland to Sampdoria last year, and there were some admiring glances during an impressive maiden campaign in Serie A.
But interest has surely been ramped up after a sensational Euro 2020 campaign for the winger so far.
He scored a long-range effort against Russia on June 21, and his teammate, Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, was effusive in his praise for the young talent, calling him “phenomenal”.

His current club manager, former Premier League-winning boss Claudio Ranieri, has also poured praise on his “prodigy“.
Looking at the level of interest surrounding Damsgaard and his exploits at the Euros this summer, it could prove a costly deal to bring him to east London.
That price will soar even further if he impresses against England on Wednesday in their semi-final clash at Wembley.
He is probably not someone we desperately need either, as he made the majority of his starts last season (11) from the left-wing [WhoScored], where we are well-stocked with the likes of Said Benrahma.
However, Damsgaard looks to be a versatile attacker and his reputation is only likely to grow, so it could be now or never if we want to sign him.
