West Ham want to sign Ben Brereton-Diaz this summer -report

West Ham want to sign Ben Brereton-Diaz from Blackburn this summer, but are behind Brighton in the race for his signature according to TEAMtalk.

The Chile international has scored 20 goals in 27 Championship games so far this season, helping Rovers push into the playoff places as they look to come back to the top flight for the first time since 2012.

His current deal is due to expire at the end of the season, but Blackburn have an option to extend that by a year and it’s believed they are looking to trigger it.

According to TEAMtalk’s report that hasn’t put Premier League clubs off looking to sign him, with Brighton moving ahead in the race for his signature.

They are willing to offer players in exchange to soften the blow for the Championship side, but West Ham are monitoring the situation and could make a move during the summer window.

Needed

West Ham need a striker. Plain and simple. Obviously and clearly. Whether it’s Brereton-Diaz or not, someone needs to come in that can play as a striker.

This season Michail Antonio has struggled carrying the load alone, and his performance level has dipped which has coincided with a run of poor form for the Hammers.

He’s still good enough to be the first choice, but David Moyes has been clear that he wants to bring someone in to compete and offer fresh options for the position that the Jamaican has held as his own for the best part of three years now.

Brereton-Diaz has shown an ability to find the back of the net at the top level, scoring four times in 12 appearances for the Chile national team to go with his 20 Championship goals this season.

Bringing him in as back-up for Antonio would give him time to adapt to the league with less pressure and expectation, while also letting him test himself. Perfect opportunity for everyone.
