West Ham want to seal Elye Wahi transfer as doubts emerge at London Stadium
West Ham United have positioned themselves to sign Lens striker Elye Wahi after strong competition emerged for Palmeiras gem Luis Guilherme, according to Fabien Gn.
The French journalist posted on X, who is followed by Fabrizio Romano, saying the Irons could turn their attention to the 21-year-old forward as an alternative to Guilherme, for whom they have reportedly agreed a fee of £25.5million [GE Globo].
Wahi is Lens’ top scorer this season following a move from Montpellier last summer, with two of his 12 goals coming in the Champions League – including a winner against Arsenal last October.
Could West Ham sign both Luis Guilherme and Elye Wahi?
The Hammers’ summer rebuild is beginning to gather pace as Julen Lopetegui looks to shape his inaugural London Stadium squad, but losing out on Guilherme would represent an early blow.
A move for another Brazilian, Flamengo’s international centre-back Fabricio Bruno, has already all-but fallen through, and Irons technical director Tim Steidten will hope to avoid another setback in his pursuit of Guilherme.
While seeking out targets in South America is yet to pay dividends for Lopetegui’s early summer business, Guilherme looks likely to arrive, thankfully.
Michail Antonio, West Ham’s long-time number nine, is running out of contract, and Wahi is the latest in a list of names linked with replacing him.
With the club set to face competition for more established names like Simon Banza and Serhou Guirassy, Wahi may represent a solid signing who goes under the radar, but with the transfer window starting to kick into top gear, it’s unlikely the Irons will sign both him and Guilherme this summer.
In other West Ham news, a manager is desperate to sign an Irons man this summer but the club might have to deny him.
