West Ham United want to sign Taiwo Awoniyi as Nottingham Forest transfer update emerges
West Ham United still hold interest in Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest after David Moyes’s departure with his value lower due to injury concerns, according to Daniel Taylor.
The Hammers have been in desperate need of a number nine for many years and have purchased many options over the years.
Gianluca Scamacca signed to plenty of fanfare before being let go to Atalanta after just one season, where he has now won the Europa League.
In a Q and A for the Athletic (28 May) Taylor has suggested that Awoniyi is of interest to the Hammers to sign a striker this summer.
He said: “Awoniyi is another player getting interest from potential buyers. I know Forest would rather keep him.
“Chelsea tried to sign him in the January transfer window. David Motes was also keen and West Ham still like him. His value, I imagine, has diminished because of the number of games he has missed through injury.”
Should West Ham sign Taiwo Awoniyi?
Since signing for Forest from Union Berlin, the Nigerian has proved to be a more than serviceable striker in the Premier League.
He has proved to be one of their most important players which has added to the frustration that he has been in and out through injury.
Awoniyi scored six and assisted three this season despite only being fit enough to start 12 matches and make eight substitute appearances [FotMob].
Add to that the 10 goals that he scored in 27 appearances in his debut season and you have a good option for the Hammers.
With Michail Antonio only getting older and Danny Ings potentially staring at the exit door, a striker is needed at the London Stadium.

Julen Lopetegui has come through the door as manager and Tim Steidten has taken over the transfer side and yet a Moyes target is being considered.
Awoniyi could prove to be a great signing if the fee that Forest demands is achievable.
