West Ham United want to sign Sergio Gomez, Manchester City lead race
West Ham have had an interest in signing Anderlecht left-back Sergio Gomez, but Manchester City lead the race for the player say 90min.
The Spaniard has shone in the Belgium top flight and attracted the attention of clubs like Aston Villa and Leeds too this summer.
But while the Hammers look to secure a left-sided player to compete with Aaron Cresswell after allowing Arthur Masuaku to join Besiktas on loan, it’s the current Premier League champions who have made a move for the 21-year-old.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri has reported that City have bid £8.4m for the left-back, with the intention to loan him to Girona immediately as part of his development.
Anderlecht are said to want £15m to let him leave and his exit is expected, so West Ham will need to get a move on if they want to bring him in.
Targets
West Ham have made a habit this summer of targeting several players for one position at a time and then honing in on their priority target.
With the striker position it led to Armando Broja and Gianluca Scamacca before the club settled on the Italian, and now at left back Filip Kostic is the man being prioritised.
But with the Serbian looking unlikely to join, there are other targets including Maxwel Cornet and Gomez seems to be another on the list of alternatives.
An assist machine because of his ability going forward, he’s also able to play in midfield and could be a similar profile to that of Oleksander Zinchenko who the club were also interested in earlier in the summer.
It would be a cheap deal to do but as it stands it seems as though the Hammers have other priorities and they could end up missing out on this deal as Man City zone in on their man.
